An interview with...

Arthur & Barbara Walker

White Moss
Interviewed by:
Rebecca Oaks

Arthur and Barbara Walker are a local couple born and bred in Yealand Redmayne. Arthur’s father bought a plot of land at White Moss where he kept hens and then had a market garden supplying carrots to the Co-op in Carnforth. Arthur helped out from an early age with the chores but on leaving school trained as a mechanic, eventually getting his own business in Silverdale. He and Barbara are very knowledgable about the peat workings on the moss and also remember the trees being felled for bobbins and for horse jumps. They have closely studied the wild life on their land and observed the increase of deer numbers and the decline in wild flowers.
